STOP , THINK & REFLECT

We want the BEST for Our Babies
Are we Over protective ? Over zealous ? Over Worried ? Over spending ? Over Indulging ? mmpphh...
Guilty your honour - I'm guilty as charged !!!!

Are we thankful ? thankful enuf for what we have ?
Can we spare some ? juz a little wee bit ?.. Is there anything that we can gif ?
Do we really need that stuffs ? .. that extras; T-shirt, toys, food ? those branded good,... ?
Or can we put that $10 into a charity box ??

It may be small... BUT we CAN make a DIFFERENCE !

Let these pics do the 'talking'... (u might already seen this many times)

Questions...questions...
What toys to buy? Which Ice-cream flavour to treat? Which clothes to wear? Where to go next holiday ?.... will it make any great difference ?

But only one question here...
~~~ SURVIVAL ~~~
The least we can do is to say a Doa' (prayer) for them..
Ya Allah, pls protect all children from the evil of mankind. Let them see and enjoy this beautiful world that You have created. Let them know that compassion and love do exist. Stop their sufferings so that they will be peace loving leaders of the future world. Don't let violence, cruelty, greed and revenge ever set foot in their innocent little heart.. replace them with love & everything nice.
Pls don't let another drop of their innocent blood be the price for the wrongdoings of the 'GREEDY & HEARTLESS' world-leaders !! (now I am angry.. GGgrrr !!) What do they want still?... isn't it ENUFF ?.. this world is a 'gift' from GOD for ALL OF US ! .. to temporarily build our 'homes' till we move on.... give us our PEACE !!
"Please, please ya Allah ... Save & Protect all the children... place them under Your shade, so that all they can see are Smiles, all that they can hear are Laughters and all they can feel are Tenderness.. Let Happiness be the fence surrounding their little world and block their views against the reality of this cruel world .....InsyaAllah.... Ameen"
ANOTHER FALL
Kesian my baby... yesterday nite fall again, tripping from a blanket in his brothers' room - gedebam !! aper lagi, nangis lah.... !
This time he really cried, wif tears trickling down his precious cheek !... try to soothe him - doesn't work..... then no choice - do what my mum used to do - cecahkan sikit guler at his mouth - lick, lick... then diam already...
It works !! ... hehehe...
He's so cute now, cos everytime he tripped into something (or pretent to trip), he'll try to get our attention. First he'll say "ooohhh.." then "eeeaahhhhh".... With the most pretentious face - looking at you, waiting..... - Action lebih !!
So, I'll come to him & say "oohhh, Umi hug.. Umi hug ok.... bossa, bossa (kiss,kiss) "... then he'll smile !
Last time, I used to beat the things that he tripped into - to divert his attention (like our mothers used to do lah... "jahat dier, bok !" & hit whatever - be it a table, chair, etc)...
Then I realised that he had started to imitate me & 'beat' everything that tripped him !
Am I teaching him how to be violent & blame others for his mistakes & falls ?
Mmmpphh... I think this is not so healthy, so must change 'tactic'....
So now when he falls, I said something like "next time, walk carefully ok, see this corner - u hv to..." or "oh.. the box is in your way izzit ? let Umi move this so u won't fall next time"...
then I goes like "ooohhh... pain izzit ? come Umi hug.... Bossa, bossa"...
Although half of the time the fall & the cry is pretend one lah... but it's fun to entertain him... so cute... so adorable...
But he will really cry if it's painful -- yep ! ..with tears & all..... then I know that I need to do something more.... pacify him & check if there's any wounds....
Don't worry baby... InsyaAllah, Umi will always be there for you....
I can't always be there to catch your fall - so, u hv to learn how get up yrself & soon, how to avoid the pits.
But when u do fall..... InsyaAllah, I'll be there to hug, kiss & nurse your wounds....
So don't be afraid to step out into this vast world .... for I'll be here & always praying for your safety.. May Allah protect us all always... forever, InsyaAllah....
...Ameen
Sunday (14thMay 2006)
My maid is off today, but before she left at 10am, she had already roasted the chicken & did the potato salad. So nice of her... don't know how I can cope without her...
Anyway we juz stay at home till around 5pm... after asar, I asked hb to go to Giant Bedok so we can get the Zuchinni for baby (so difficult to get Zuchinni here in Singapore, except for a few places !) Ended up we get so many other things !....
We didn't go to my parents cos the 'toilet' there are still being repaired !
Haiz !... inilah buat dgn orang Melayu... dah 3 minggu pon tak siap toilet yg senonet tu !
So much for my Mother's day !... sigh...
Maybe, if my baby had grown up a bit - I can get a nice Mother's day card from him...InsyaAllah...
For me...
THANKS UMI... yet again and again...
For All that you have given me... for all that you didn't give me (bcos u can't), for all that you wish can give me (but did not.. hahaha) and for all that you are going to give me.... I love you.
Nothing can ever repay you... only my do'a goes to both of you.. Ummi & Abah...
Rabbigh Firli Waaliwaa Lidaiyah, Warham huma Kama Rabbayaani Soghira
(Ya Tuhanku, ampunilah aku dan kedua ibu-bapaku dan rahmatilah keduanya sepertimana mereka mendidik aku di waktu kecil)
InsyaAllah... in time to come, my children will do'a for me the same...... Amin
Fri - 12 May (Vesak Day Public Holiday)
'ANOTHER DEPRESSING DAY'... :( (sob, sob...sob)
Morning - Shing Siong for grocery shopping
Then my bride-to-be niece wanted me to follow her & my sis to Concourse to look for 'berkat' wrapping. It's going to be Sholat Jumaat time so I said ok after hb's approval.
Then - another 'shock'... I felt so sick & saddenned - Please Help me Allah - I can't go for I can't move ! But I hv to go out !.... have to channel my energy somewhere else.
1.15pm - my sis picked me up & I encouraged her to drive all the way.. she has juz started to drive again (being chauffer driven by her hb for 20+ yrs)! Must let her practice so she can drive when 'menjempoting' & not rely on my mum (she's 72 & still driving around - MasyaAllah, Alhamdullillah... may Allah give her strength & health always.. Amin)
Can't see much cos many shops closed for Vesak day... even at Textile Centre (looking for 'tali goni' to tie the berkat) all shops were closed. My niece ended up buying a pair of working shoes instead of the wedding shoe she's looking for (no size). So we left around 3.30pm.
Then, at nite ....the story goes again.... (boo hoo...)
==================
Sat (13 May)
Morning - Geylang Market.. so packed ! My maid sat with baby at the hawker centre while we go to get things... had Geylang Cendol. Going home & it rained heavily - so sit & drink teh tarik.
5pm - Hb wanted to 'date' me out - juz the 2 of us.
Our date - 'Library' at Esplanade to hear 6 young Singaporean directors yapping & watched a few short films... ok never mind !
8.30 - we walked around Esplanade, very crowded !
Hungry oredy - went to 'Makan Sutra' food court - had Gado Gado ($5) and murtabak ($8 !)... the satay we ordered took so long to come so we juz packed & go - maybe can eat along the river.
Found a space along the bench, but the live music seems too loud for us now (sigh.. maybe we r growing old... hahaha). Anyway it's already 10.30pm & I'm tired (where did my energy goes?)
Headed to Tampines Mart Market to get Zuchinni for baby (hehehe.. though we know it will be closed, we still gatal & go !) Reached there 11pm - CLOSED !!
Watched 'The Patriot' - Midnite at Ch5 till 2am !!
A Tribute to Mothers
It's a shame that we start to 'pen' down tributes to mothers only as Mother Day approaches...
suddenly flashbacks of our mother's love & sacrifices played in our mind...
but being human as we are, this is better than nothing....
Wallahu-Alam
~~ So here I go ~~
THANKS UMI, for the love & care you've given me throughout my life..
For your patience, when I was rebelious...
For Always being there, although I misunderstood them as being too suffocating..
For correcting my mistakes, although I thought of you as being too 'backwards'...
and for a million more things that I won't be if not for YOU & the blessings of the ALLAH
~ FOR BEING MY MUM ~
&
~ for giving me chance to be a MUM ~
** SHUKRAN GHAZILAN ya UMMI **
A Beautiful article from :
Your Mother is always with you.
She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street,
she's the smell of bleach in your freshly laundered socks,
she's the cool hand on your brow when you're not well.
Your Mother lives inside your laughter.
And she's crystallized in every tear drop.
She's the place you came from, your first home, your best friend, your keeper of your secrets, always on your side; always to protect you; always to love you.
And nothing on earth can separate you.. Not time, not space...not even death!
To my mum & mum-in-law that I never met (Allayarhamah).
May we never take you for granted.
O Allah, forgive our parents as they looked after us when we were small.
Grant them Jannat al-Firdaus, the Highest stage in Paradise.
Give them that which is best in this world, the best in the hereafter, and Protection from the fire.
O Allah, make them among the residents of Jannah, with the Prophets, the righteous, the muttaqun, and the martyrs.
...Ameen.
Monday, 1st May - Labour Day Holiday
Lucky, baby is up early today cos we planned to go to Changi Beach (dah lamer tak pigi).
* 7am - get ready
* 8am - outz
Me, hb, baby & my maid.
Wanted to eat the famous Nasi Lemak from Changi Hawker Centre for b/fast -> went to Kak Neng's shop (Saujana)
Today the Nasi Lemak is very the weak
* my ikan goreng - tawa-hebe (maybe luper put salt)
* my hb Fried Chicken - tasteless. Haizz !!
Kak Neng said today so many ppl come to eat & bungkus so many packets.... But common lah - don't compromise yr quality lah.. ni macam, mesti my hb don't want to eat there nemore :(
Then cepat2 makan cos my baby dah cranky (hot).
We headed to the beach:
* Tide was low
* Water - so muddy
* Sand - not clean, very coarse & hv lots of broken shells
* Place - crowded & lots of camps
Baby don't want to step on the sand anyway, so I just let him play wif the sand further up where we sat (it's better there).
Let's wait for the tide to come & see how the water is.
~ 1.5hrs later, the tide came in, but the water quality doesn't change ~ still muddy (poor hb..., he wanted to go for a swim but cancel his desire).
11am - packed up (don't want to stay longer)
While baby's in the shower, I realised there's lots of 'daunTeh' scrubs around the toilet area.
So, I plucked the leaves for Umi (she likes to make botok-botok ikan wif them... so better plucked some for her - then she'll do & give me some... hehehe.. politics beb....)
DISSAPOINTED
* Nasi Lemak
** The beach
(next time will stick to East Coast)
GOOD
* Baby's hepi playing wif the sand
(more like playing wif the muddy water that we constantly hv to bring to him fm the beach)
** Get 'daunTeh' for umi
(so soon can eat umi's botok2.. yum ! )
The rest of the day - stay at home
Later around 4pm, hb went out to meet his friend & came back at midnight !!.. Haizzz !!
(Alamak - I forget to bring my camera lah, but lucky my maid brought hers - so I do snapped a few pics of baby, but hv to wait for her to finish the rest of the film & get it develops... maybe in a couple of mths time.. haha...)
28 April 2006 - SILVER SCREEN AWARD Ceremony :
National Museum - 7pm
(Luckily I hv my menses for all this 7pm shows.. hahaha)
Rushed home fm work - got invitation for the Silver Screen Awards presentation : 19th Singapore Film festival at National Museum....
Gosh! I've never made so many trips to NM in my whole life as I've made this week !
The show - ok lah... hosted by Wong Li Lin
The awards were given away by many chinese actors, actresses & directors...
The sad part -
WHERE's our Malay Directors ?
None of the Singapore Short Films competed are made by Malay directors - All Chinese !! or only those selected are made by Chinese... ??
Common lah 69 films submitted, I wondered if any are made by Non-Chinese... or only the 9 finalist selected are C ? Mmmphh I wonder... forget to ask them on that day... !
Anyway, managed to chat with Riri Reza, the Indonesian director for 'Gie'. Nice guy... But I didn't manage to catch this film last week .. heard it's good. I'm happy for him that he won the Jury's Award.
Ok, we didn't stay too long after that.... after the yum-yum, they were playing like those deafening music in the theater... so, me & hb... CIAO !
29 April 2005 - Lido : 7pm
4.30 : Dir - Royston Tan (Singapore)
Wanted to get some new T-shirts for my baby... he's outgrown most of the ones he have... My baby is growing too fast... Boo hoo.... :(
10.30am - We headed to Isetan-Tampines (hv to go early on Sat morning - not so packed. Sat afternoon, Sun & Mon (Pub Hol) will be very crowded (I know). Browsed around the Children's Dept & managed to get 2 cute T-shirts for baby. Then hb get himself another shoe... !
Night :
Got free tickets to view the closing film for the Fest... a Singapore film directed by Bad Boy Royston Tan... titled "4.30".
Oh my ! how to describe this film ? Abt. a lonely boy's days....
STAGNANT, NO DEVELOPMENT, SLOW..... BOOooorringgg.....
.... Help ! my brain is frozen !!
What's the message ? What's the story ?
Is this "NewWave" movie ?... Nope! I don't think so... this movie got No Wave at all, not even a ripple !
At the Question & Answer session :
To every question asked
"What's the significance of December ?/ Why he drink the cough Drops / what's with the Chinese book ? / Who's the Korean man ?...
To all Mr Royston answered..
"that's the mystery..blah, blah... Oh! u hv to watch the film again to get the clues.."
Oh what the Heck ! who wanted to watch the film again... not even if u pay me $10/- !!, but if u give me above $50/- - I'll watch again ... Hehehe...
Glad the Film Festival is over.... now hb will hv time off !
WEDDING IN GALILEE - Dir : Michel Khleifi (Palestine)
27 April 2006 (Thurs) - 7pm
National Museum
Finally get to watch the film after the postponement. Today hb picked me up from work & there's not much jam, so we reached Stamford Road around 6.10pm. We decide to hv something to bite first & end up having tehtarik and shared a plate of Nasi Bryani. The film started at 7pm to not so many audience. This film won at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival.
It's abt the depiction of a small village in Palestine through the prism of a wedding. The father of the groom gets approval from the Israel Governor to hold a traditional wedding for his son, on the condition that the Israeli military Governor & his staffs be guests of honour at the ceremony. This request brought anger to some of the villagers who hv deep hatred for the Israelis (for all the things they've done). A group of 4 young men plotted to assassinate the Governor & his teams.
The film unfolds the cultural & tradition in a Palestinian Wedding. On how the whole guests waited for the 'white bed sheet' with 'blood' spots to be brought out... meaning the wedding hv been consummated. When the groom hv problem to 'touch' his bride (too angry wif his father for inviting the Governor), the family became panicky & wanted to call the doctor... while the guest kept on going with the party, which will end only after the couple had consummated. Anyway, the assassination plot failed & the bride eventually took her own virginity (don't ask me how, hehehe...)
The show is ok, except - why all the nude scenes ? (got mandi bunga lah..) .... Aishk !!
Some scenes showing man holding hands, kissing each other.... & the woman pampering each other, might be mistaken in the West as being homosexual or lesbians... but this their way of welcoming friends & enjoying each other's company... nothing to do with homosexuality or being lesbians (which is the problem in the Western world) ... so don't be deceived !
We went straight home & managed to play with baby for awhile before he went to bed...
Ate Muhshi wrapped in cabbage & brinjal for dinner (supper) ... yum, yum...
Still on the Film Fest...
15 April 2006 - Sat 9.15pm : Lido
Wedding in Galilee : Dir - Michel Khleifi (Palestine)
8.30pm left home. With hb - drove all the way to Prince2 : show postponed to 27 April 2006 !! What the @#$%*….
Anyway, on the way back, I felt like drinking tehtarik - so we headed to
Old Bedok & had tehtarik, beef kueteow in upeh for hb & rojak....
17 April 2006 - Mon 9.15pm : Prince2
Sleeping Child
: Dir Yasmine Kassari (Morocco)
A nice film... it explores the life of an isolated generation of women living a rural part of Morocco dealing with the separation fm their husbands who had gone to Spain looking for jobs. Zeinab's husband depart to Spain with his friends a day after their wedding. When she found out that she was 3 months pregnant, her MIL brought her to the local healer, so that the baby can be 'put to sleep' awaiting her son's return to witness the birth of his baby. A 'white magic' was performed by scribbling something (like ayat) on a paper - to be wrapped in copper & kept safely - if opened, the child will never wake up again. Upon deciding to wake up the child, the 'talisman' have to be washed down the river...
The film potrayed the hard life the women faced, working on the bereft land, once worked by the men, who had gone to Spain (facing hard reality that 'the grass is NOT greener on the other side' - No Job in Spain). Anyway, at the end... after a year or so, Zeinab managed to contact her husband & seeked his permission to wake the child up ... he said 'yes', & she let the 'talisman' flow down the river bed...
My question :
Does this practice really exist in Morocco ? My search in the internet bears no fruit ! Can one make the baby in your womb sleep as long as u wanted & wake it up at your convenience ?... huh ? Bagus jugak sey, but....Scientifically & logically... ILLOGICAL ! ??????????????????????? Wallahu-Alam
21 April 2006 - Fri 9.15pm : Prince2
I love Cinema : Dir. Oussama Fawzi (Egypt)
{my hb's friend)
Hb was out wif the Arab directors from morning, so I drove to Prince myself & lost my way... coming out of Baliestier instead of Kallang & driving all the way to Sim Lim tower & having to call hb several time to lead me to Prince ... hahaha... (typical me).
It's a beautiful film that are able to effect you personally... u go with the flow & gets into the character. Set in the sixties, this is a controversial film in Egypt, that had angered the Coptic Christian. (that's why it's NC 16, I guess)
It's abt a boy - Naeem, who's love for the movies met with great disapproval from his father... who constantly warned that cinema, singing, dancing will never never see him to heaven.. they r SINFUL.... HARAM !...That Naeem's a bad boy & will go to hell and the fire & worms will devour him, etc..etc..etc.. So the boy gets into cute mischieves & sometimes tell ppl that it doesn't matter that he's bad cos he's going to hell anyway. At other time he negotiated with God - telling Him that if he's able to watch certain movies, he'll be good & say his prayers, etc....
Well, lots of events unfolded & happened.. the movie is funny, cute & emotional (a bit provocative) and touch the reality of our lives (eventhough we wld love to deny it)... of a father's struggle to keep the family fm going to 'hell' by refraining them fm doing what's forbidden.
The film do get loud applause fm the audience.
After the show, we (hb, Oussama & me) went to Al-majlis.. we were joined later by the other directors; Nidal (Syria), Jocelyne (Lebanon), Michel (Palestine) & Wael (Jounalist fm Egypt)... I was BORED by their conversations ! Especially in Arabic which most of it I DON'T really understand !! (Hb should hv sent me home first)... anyway, I was so tired & juz kept quiet... Although Jocelyne & Michel questioned me on why I decide to cover myself, to which I juz answered "bcos I wanted to" (malas nak layan)- After her film 'Dunya', I know she thought of 'us' as being suppressed... well WHO CARES !!!... we left around 2am & reached home abt 2.30am, all shagged up !! ZZZzzz.....
But I do enjoy the movie very much.....
26 April 2006 - Wed 7pm : National Museum
"A New Day in Old Sana'a" -
Dir : Bader Ben Hirsi (Yemen)
From work, I drove to YMCA carpark to meet with hb... no carpark so we go around, parked at SMU and walked to National Museum.
Another well done movie, filmed entirely in breathtaking ancient part of Sana'a, Yemen.
Abt a spoilt brad rich girl, soon to be wed. In a community & tradition where love & choosing yr own partner is unheard of, the groom realised that he's actually in love with an ophaned low-class girl. An Italian he worked with, who's there to photograph the life of the ppl there don't really understand why this love affair could be complicated....in a society where u don't marry a person but married the whole family & community. And how could anyone fall in love without knowing each other or even seeing each other ... How love can strike you by just looking into the eyes of the veiled woman. SubhanaAllah... those eyes that could stop a man with juz a glance. Fredriko (the Italian) soon began to understand as he mixed & learned abt their lifes, and one day himself experienced the glance of a woman's eyes when the veiled woman he passed by & accidentally looked up to him... MasyaAllah...beautiful, captivating (yes, juz the eyes!)
The ending is a bid sad... cos Tariq, after asking Ineez to wait for him on the bridge at Midnite to elope, left her standing there till dawn waiting for him. He decided not to shame his family & married his fiancee after all (wat's her name)... So, Ineez... still hoping for Tariq to come, will at every midnite sneaked to the bridge & wait for her beloved.. hoping that one day he'll come... only to find dawn breaking the sky.. she dragged herself home yet again... and waiting with hope for "A New Day in Old Sana'a"....
